Greenon Local Schools Earns Purple Star Designation
Greenon Local Schools is proud to announce that Greenon has been selected as a Purple Star School by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This recognition is awarded to schools that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to supporting students and families connected to our nation’s military.
The Ohio Purple Star Advisory Board evaluates schools based on rigorous criteria, including the development of programs and resources tailored to the unique needs of military-connected students. Greenon Elementary, Greenon Junior and Senior High have successfully met these standards, showcasing a school-wide dedication to ensuring smooth transitions, wellness, and academic success for military families.
“We are honored to receive the Purple Star designation,” said Superintendent Darrin Knapke. “At Greenon, we strive to create an inclusive, supportive environment for all students, and we are especially proud of our commitment to military families who serve and sacrifice for our country.”
The Purple Star Award is more than a symbol—it reflects an ongoing commitment to understanding and addressing the challenges military families face. With student-led support initiatives and having a dedicated local liaison, administrator John Jewell, Greenon Local Schools continues to stand out as a model of excellence in resources and support to military-connected students and their families.
