PBIS

What is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It is an approach schools use to promote school safety and positive behavior. The focus of PBIS is on prevention, not punishment.

PBIS is a framework for supporting students' behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. There are several components:

  • Clear expectations

  • Comprehensive instruction

  • Consistent systems of acknowledging and correcting behaviors

  • Supportive structure

  • Community connections

Recent PBIS rewards for students include:

  • Young's Field Trip

  • Bowling Field Trip

  • Movie Days

  • PBIS Store Shopping

The foundation of PBIS was developed by researchers at the University of Oregon in the 1980s. Since then, the PBIS framework has been used by districts and schools across the United States.
