Greenon Teacher Tom Jenkins has been selected for the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Rotary Club of Springfield.Greenon Teacher Tom Jenkins has been selected for the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Rotary Club of Springfield.
“Mr. Jenkins brings his enthusiasm and passion for teaching and STEM to everything he does,” said Superintendent Brad Silvus. “He is relentless in his pursuit of resources and opportunities for his students and his excitement about the subject he teachers creates a lasting impression on his students. We are honored to have Mr. Jenkins as a teacher at Greenon Schools.”
Mr. Jenkins, who was nominated for the award by students and colleagues, is one of four 2020 recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award. The award is given annually to outstanding teachers by the Rotary Club of Springfield.
Mr. Jenkins is a STEM Teacher at Greenon Junior/Senior High School.
“I'm very honored to win this award, especially when I work alongside so many educators who go above and beyond on a daily basis,” said Mr. Jenkins. “I love teaching and interacting with my amazing students. I am truly thankful to be a part of the Greenon community.”
Mr. Jenkins has taught for 23 years, including 21 years at Greenon Local Schools. He is a graduate of Wright State University (Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, 1997; Master’s Degree in Science Teaching, 2000) and holds a Secondary Engineering Education degree from the University of Cincinnati, 2018.
“Mr. Jenkins is a well-rounded guy with a passion in his heart for teaching the people that will be the future of the world we live in,” said Junior Makenzie Gossett. “He takes it upon himself to turn his classes into classes that students want to be in and have fun in while still learning useful information.”
Mr. Jenkins will be recognized along with the other recipients of 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award at the March 16, 2020 Springfield Rotary Club meeting.
"When I think of the word excellence, especially as it pertains to education, my first thoughts go directly to my colleague, Mr. Thomas Jenkins,” said Jeff Nickles, a Greenon High School teacher and colleague of Mr. Jenkins. “Mr. Jenkins instills in students a desire to achieve by following their own pathways to discovery. His investment in his own continuing education assures that he will have the knowledge and experience to apply his curriculum through real-world, hands-on learning experiences.”
