Promoting Healthy Habits at School

Promoting Healthy Habits at School
Posted on 12/15/2017
We have entered the time of year where we see an increase in illnesses like Norovirus (“stomach bug”), Influenza, and common respiratory illnesses. At school, our nursing team and our teachers are encouraging students to practice healthy habits to protect themselves and others. Parents can help us with this effort by reinforcing the importance of healthy habits at home!

1. Plenty of rest and nutritious food are needed.

2. Do not eat or drink from the same utensil or container after someone else.

3. Keep hydrated by drinking a lot of healthy fluids.

4. When coughing or sneezing, cover the nose and mouth by using a tissue or bent elbow.

5. Dress appropriately for the weather with a heavy coat, gloves, and a hat.

6. Most importantly, practice frequent hand washing with soap and water or hand sanitizer. This is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs. Wash, wash, wash those hands!

As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if he/she has or has had:
1. Fever more than 100°F
the last 24 hours. (Must be fever free without medication.)

2. Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours.

3. Continuous coughing not relieved with cough medicine.

When students are sick at school, we contact the student's family to pick them up. Please make the school aware of any changes in contact information immediately so that we are able to reach you if your student becomes ill.

When alerting the school of absences due to illness, please let us know about your child's symptoms to help us track illnesses in our school environment.

Thank you for working with us to keep students and staff healthy and in school!
